COURSE DESCRIPTION
This class is designed for students interested in Agriscience and the related fields of Horticulture. Students in this class will study soil properties, components, texture, reactions and structure. Students will also study plant classification, cell structure, parts and functions, plant processes, and plant nutrition. Students will discuss the use of pesticides and their importance in agriculture. Students will discuss the horticulture industry (hydroponics, floriculture, greenhouse, etc.) and its importance to our economy. Students will explore the career opportunities available in the horticulture and plant sciences industry.

Participation: Participation is 50% of your grade. You will be expected to participate in all class and group activities. You will start out with 5 participation points a day. If you are tardy to class, you will lose 1 point. If you are excused absent you will receive 2.5 points for that day. If you are unexcused absent you will receive zero points for the day.
GRADING SCALE:
A 94-100% C 74-76%
A- 90-93% C- 70-73%
B+ 87-89% D+ 67-69%
B 84-86% D 64-66%
B- 80-83% D- 60-63%
C+ 77-79% E Below 60%
There will be class discussion. Exams will include short-answer, essay or multiple choice questions. In class we shall make comparisons, contrasts, and analyses of different topics of study.
STUDENT RESPONSIBLITIES:
Students are expected to arrive on time for class. Tardiness is disruptive to classmates who have arrived on time. Students are expected to treat others with the respect that they would want to receive. Students are to come to class with all materials needed for that day.
CELL PHONES:
Cell phone use in class is not permitted. Cell phones will be turned into the teacher at the beginning of class. They will be returned to you at the end of class time. If this policy is violated, your phone will be sent to the office and a parent will need to come pick it up.
There may be additions, subtractions or adaptations involving this syllabus during the year. These will be mentioned in class as they arise.

Students will explore the career opportunities available in the horticulture and plant sciences industry.
